The 12th Annual Orange & Green Scholarship Gala will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2014. The celebration will be held at Palm Aire Country Club, 5601 Country Club Way, Sarasota, FL. There will be a Pre-Gala Reception starting at 6:00pm and the Program will begin at 7:00pm. The ticket cost is $60.00. The Orange & Green Scholarship Gala is the primary scholarship fundraising event for the Sarasota-Manatee Chapter. This is a special night dedicated to honoring recipients of scholarships that the Chapter awards to local graduating high school seniors. Over the past 15 years, more than $50,000.00 in scholarship money has been given by the Chapter to recipients from Sarasota and Manatee counties.
This year’s Keynote Speaker will be FAMU Board of Trustees Member, Torey L. Alston. Mr. Alston serves as Chief of Staff to Broward County Commissioner Barbara Sharief. He previously served as Executive Director for Florida’s Office of Supplier Diversity (OSD) and Interim Executive Director for the state’s Council on Efficient Government. In 2009, he served as Vice-Chair of the Florida Council on the Social Status of Black Men and Boys. Alston, a FAMU graduate, received his bachelor’s degree and an MBA with a concentration in marketing and management. While at FAMU, he served in various roles including Class President (two terms), Student Senator and President of the FAMU Student National Alumni Association. Alston is a Life Member of the NAACP and the FAMU National Alumni Association. He resides in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
