FAMU’s own BK Jackson to perform at the 8th Annual Gulf Coast Rhythm & Ribfest

Music lovers are in for a treat this Saturday as Florida A&M University’s (FAMU) own, BK Jackson, will be performing during the 8th Annual Gulf Coast Rhythm & Ribfest at the Manatee County Fairgrounds. BK is scheduled to take the stage at 5:00PM on Saturday, April 12, 2014.

BK is in his senior year of college at FAMU studying Music Industry and Entertainment. He has become extremely involved in the university since stepping foot on the hill, including numerous committee appointments as the official representation of the student body. BK has also been a part of the Student Senate at FAMU since his freshman year and served as President of the 42nd Student Senate. For the past two years, you could also catch BK on WANM 90.5 FM, as he is a jazz personality for the Jazz Central Station. To compliment his studies and other extracurricular activities, BK is a Fall 2010 initiate of the Beta Nu Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

BK is an exceptional musician and has been electrifying audiences in the US for several years. BK first performed at the age of 11, and has received numerous awards for his talents. He was voted as the Tampa Bay Entertainer of the Year (First Annual Black Diamond Award) and was the NAACP ACT-SO (Afro Academic Technological Scientific Olympics) Gold Medal Winner in the Music Instrumental/Contemporary Category. BK was also the youngest person ever selected as a finalist and won the Fifth Annual Capital Jazz Festival Challenge in Columbia, Maryland.

Most recently, BK has been seen across the world with international musical icon, Prince, as a member of an 11-piece horn section known as the New Power Generation (NPG) Horns. BK debuted with Prince on a three-day concert series in Chicago, IL at the United Center where he performed in front of sold out audiences each night. Each concert was followed by a sold out after party jam session at the House of Blues. Since then, BK has been seen on late night talk show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, where he performed once with Prince and another time with NPG Records recording artist Andy Allo. BK can also be spotted in Prince’s Rock & Roll Love Affair music video and Andy Allo’s People Pleaser music video.
